Independent driving - changes to the practical test

As of October 2010 a new section was added to the practical driving test requiring everyone to undertake a ten minute period of independent driving. This is not a test of navigation skills, but is more about  making your own decisions and showing that you can follow directions and road signs on your own. This also includes deciding when it's safe and appropriate to ask for confirmation about where you're going.
